COMBINATION CULTURAL/ FISHING WEEK - CUBA

The Travel: Guests fly directly to Jose Marti airport in Havana. Transport to Vinales, Havana, Playa Larga and return segments all by private taxi or van. Our time transporting is never longer than about three hours. International flights to and from Cuba not included in trip price.

Accommodations: We make a point to stay in privately-owned Casa Particulars (guest houses) rather than in large hotels. In this way, we support our Cuban friends with our business, spend time with them, learn from them, and generally leave having had a very personal and enjoyable experience.

The Fishing: Most of these trips are designed with four fishing days, for those wanting to participate. The days are usually divided between a river and the saltwater flats. For non-anglers, each of these days are filled with guided activities such as eco tours and snorkeling.

It has always been very important to us that guests are able to discover and experience some of Cuban life and culture. But the fishing packages are usually a week long, and with travel to and from the locations, most travelers are hard-pressed to add more days to their already long vacation. Finally, after lots of time and energy trying to create this kind of trip, we have been able to put details together and are now organizing these adventures.

In April of 2018, Jon led the first combination cultural-fishing trip of this kind, along with six great guests from different parts of the U.S. There was some hesitancy on his part, especially regarding some of the individual pieces of the itinerary. In truth, almost all of it was exceptional, and what wasn't we have been able to change. And this is the best part of this particular package.....that our guides and hosts on the ground in Cuba are able to accommodate our wishes, and customize our trip as we go along.

We have now been to Cuba over thirty times, and have worked very hard to make contacts with local guides, organizations, and every day Cubans. To that end, the trips we organize and lead are not the canned trips you find through many agents. We do special things. We meet Cubans, go to their apartments and have them play music for us, watch private dance performances by an acclaimed dance troop, and visit and have fun with primary students at a local Cuban school. These are special trips, and we are exceptionally proud of them.

The last thing to understand is that these trips are completely customizable. Although we have some itineraries outlined, all details can be changed according to the wishes of the group. That means we could have more days of fishing, more days of seeing life in Cuba, or extend the trips to travel to destinations more off the beaten path.
